Daves Notes
Long Course Season is upon us
There are 2 seasons in competitive swimming: Short Course and Long Course. Short course meets are swum in 25 yard pools and Long course meets are swum in 50 Meter pools. The Short Course season runs roughly September through March, and Long Course season runs roughly April through August.
Many newer swimmers will continue most of their competitions in short course pools all year-round, as 50 meter pools are fewer in number and usually used for the meets that are BB level and higher. There is only one Long Course meet this season that is offered for B and C swimmers (the splash and dash max meet on June 8-9), all others for B and C swimmers will be in short course pools.
We were awarded 2 meets during the Long Course season (both of which will be short course meets). CAST hosted the last meet of Short Course season and the first meet of Long Course season, the meet is only 4 weeks apart from the one we just held.
Leading to....yes we are hosting a meet, again at Helix Charter High School, on April 13 an 14. It is a BC meet which includes all of the swimemrs in Novice and AG and some of the swimmers in SD and SR. Please sign up to compete in this meet by April 2nd. This will likely be a pretty small meet and I anticipate it will be over between 11 and noon each day. We want all swimmers, who are eligible, to compete. So please take the time to sign up. Job postings will be up by next week, we will need lots of help from the families of the BC swimmers.
April Calendar here
Notes for April Calendar:
April 1st is Ceasar Chavez Day. Kroc recognizes this holiday and closes at 5:00pm. Some times when the center closes early, they still allow us to practice later. This is not one of those times, so we will only hold SR and SD practices from 3:15-5:00. There are no practices next Monday for Novice and AG.
April 17th The Kroc pool has had a temporary pump setup since last October, and they will be re-installing the permanent pump on Wed. April 17. I hope to secure another pool to use for that afternoon practice. I will let you know as that approaches.
Finally, if you're a fan of high school swimming, the last week in April and the first week May mark their League and CIF championship weeks, which always brings out the fast swimming.
